WHAT IS BRAINSPOTTING?

When we experience a trauma in life, we instinctively react with fight, flight or freeze response. Freeze is a connection with the feelings we had at the time of the trauma that we still feel in the present. That stuck-frozen feeling becomes formatted within us and gets reactivated when we encounter similar situations. In order to move past the effects this trauma has on us and remove the imprint the event left on us, we need to complete the movement that was frozen during the original trauma. When this reprocessing occurs, we are able to get unstuck and move forward with life.

"Where we look determines how we feel."

Brainspotting makes use of this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions. Together the therapist and client pair a fixed eye and body position to an unresolved issue. This rapid, highly effective mind/body centered therapy technique appears to go beyond the cognitive awareness and connects on to their body's innate wisdom to heal itself.
